Chairmans report from Friday evenings poorly attended AGM.
From a cricketing point of view it has been a very good season both in the senior section and the junior section. Seniors have won trophies, made finals, first team winning the premiership title, 3rd team winning div 8, 4th team finishing 4th and 2nd team mid table.
Our Junior teams including the girls also made numerous finals, won trophies and won respective divisions. As always a massive thank you to all our team managers, team coaches and club coaches. No other team in the county runs as many teams and the success above is testament to the dedication and time that you give to the girls and boys.
We have some excellent young players across all teams but to continue to be successful they need to carry on learning about the game and I don’t just mean the skills but also how to win games. We have to address the attitude of some of our juniors who make it into a senior team and then think that no more coaching is needed. This can be done on the field of play but it needs to be constructive otherwise you will not get the best out of them and that approach could also apply to senior players.
It is always great to win trophies and titles but it’s even better when it’s done with players who want to play for a club and not because of the money on offer.
Loughborough Town will always be the club that others set their standard of play by, we will always be the team that others want to beat. That means every team, junior and senior and we need to strive to keep it so.
Off the field We started to suffer in terms of income. The bar takings were down and there seemed to be a general malaise from senior players to support club events. It was a good job that we have a junior section and supportive parents of the club because the support from senior players for events last season was dire! We have had a players meeting about this so I won’t bleat on but I am quite happy to furnish you all with the costs of running this club to make you understand why your support is required.
Supporting the club off the field is as important as on it . A fact that has been borne out many times in the past. It tightens the group of players who play for the club and gives you more desire and a yearning to succeed, just ask Neil Gamble, Dips or Gidders. To help you get more involved we have reformed the Social section with Kelvin Locke driving it forward and believe me he has the bit between his teeth. So next year I look forward to seeing all of you participating in club events or you will feel the wrath of Mr Locke. Seriously please support as much as you can.
Other matters that cropped up off the field was the odd parent openly criticising the club to opposing teams and we are aware who they are. This was reported back to us by other clubs and it not only stinks but riles other parents and club members who are in ear shot. As I have always said if anybody wishes to make a point regarding how any part of the club is run whether constructive or negative and whichever section then the best way is through the committee. We will always discuss any points that want or need to be raised. Whilst talking about the committee, I would like thank all of the main committee for their continued efforts in running this club. Your drive and passion for this club perhaps goes unnoticed by many but it is much appreciated.
Also big thanks to all who help on the fund raising and social side, bar work and Friday night food. And I know I thank him whenever I can but his support is invaluable to this club and that is Charlie Bloor. My apologies if I have forgotten anyone.
Our 2 yr deal with Nuffield is now over so with the hard work of Kelvin we are actively looking for a new main sponsor.
Looking forward we are hoping to refurbish the nets.
We are looking to put a new artificial wicket down on the other side of the square so that it can be used on a Fri evening by the younger juniors. The old one will be removed.
I am really enthused regarding the social/fund raising section. As I said, Kelvin Locke is spearheading this along with Abi White, Shikha Trusz and some of the committee.
And I am just as excited about the playing side of the club. As I said earlier we have a young squad that has just won the premiership. A second team that surely must come good soon with so much talent and a 3rd and 4th team that has youngsters with immense promise.
Lets push on, bond as a club and clubmates and go from strength to strength and continue to be a force to be reckoned with.
